Report multi-cloud cost in euros

Convert AWS, Azure and Google Cloud cost into euros at ECB rates, read where each figure comes from, and deliver one report to finance.

AWS bills in dollars, Azure and Google Cloud in your agreement's currency, and finance closes the month in euros. This guide turns the workspace's figures into euros at a rate you can check, shows where every converted figure comes from, and delivers one report across the clouds. Each step links to the page that owns the detail.

Before you start

  • The connections you want in the report, with some history; see Connect AWS, Connect Azure and Connect GCP.
  • The method finance books foreign currency by: the month's average rate, or the rate of the charge's day.

1. Turn conversion on

Open Settings, then Workspaces, select the workspace, and on the Currency settings card set Currency conversion to Enabled with EUR beside it. Every figure in the workspace is converted from then on; with conversion off, a range that mixes currencies shows one total per currency and no combined total. See Currency settings.

2. Choose the rate dates

Under Exchange rate dates, choose the monthly average or the transaction-date rate to match how finance books the charge. The rates are the European Central Bank's euro reference rates, loaded once a day, and never a rate you supply, so a figure can be checked against the ECB's own publication. See Exchange rate dates and Where the rates come from.

3. Read a converted figure

A converted total carries a note naming the amount before conversion, the method and, for a range that used one rate, the rate itself. A currency the ECB does not quote, or a range older than the loaded rates, is left out of the total and named beside it rather than guessed. See Reading a converted figure and Cost amounts.

4. Build the report across the clouds

In the explorer, group by Provider, then Sub-account, over the last closed month, and save it: one table with AWS accounts, Azure subscriptions and Google Cloud projects under their providers, in euros. See Explore cost data and Save and manage reports.

5. Deliver it to finance

Schedule the report monthly: it is delivered on the first of the month at the time you choose, as a link the reader signs in to open. For a file, export the report to CSV. See Share and schedule reports and Export to CSV.

Keep it true

  • The current month's monthly-average figure moves a little with each ECB publication until the month closes; quote closed months.
  • A budget created in the product is kept in the workspace's currency, which is the conversion currency once conversion is on, so turn conversion on before creating euro budgets. See Budgets.
