# Overview and dashboards

Costfluent has two kinds of dashboard page: the fixed **Overview** every workspace opens on, and custom dashboards you build from saved cost reports.

## Before you start

- A dashboard shows saved cost reports, so save at least one first; see [Save and manage reports](/cost-reports/manage).
- Creating and changing dashboards needs the Owner or Editor team role in a workspace your team can edit. Every team role can view them. See [Access model](/concepts/access-model).

## The Overview page

**Overview** is the first entry in the sidebar. It shows, for the current workspace:

- **Total Cost (30d)** against the previous 30 days, and **Top Service**;
- **Connected Providers**, with how many are still syncing;
- **Cost Trend** and **Top Services by Cost**, each linking to cost reports;
- **Active Alerts** and **Budget Progress**;
- the **Get started** checklist until you dismiss it.

With no connection yet, the page asks you to connect a cloud provider instead.

## Create a dashboard

1. Open **Dashboards** under Reporting and select **New Dashboard**.
2. Give it a title and create it.
3. Select **Add widget**, choose the **Cost report** it should show under **Select a saved report**, give the widget a **Title**, and select **Add widget**.

Repeat step 3 for each report. Every widget shows its report's result over the report's own range, filters, grouping and money settings, and **Open report** takes you to the report itself.

## Manage dashboards

From the dashboard list, the actions menu offers **Duplicate Dashboard**, **Set as Default** and **Delete Dashboard**. The default dashboard carries a **Default** badge. On a dashboard, **Settings** shows whether it is the default and when it was created, and the title can be edited.

## How it behaves

- A widget follows its report. Edit the report and the widget shows the change.
- If the report behind a widget is deleted, the widget says "The cost report this widget shows was deleted."
- A report with no cost in its window shows "No cost in this report's window." rather than a zero chart.
