# Explore cost data

The Cost Report explorer updates the result as you change its controls. Start broad, then add only the dimensions needed to answer the question.

## Choose a time range

Use a preset such as this month, last month, last 7, 30, or 90 days, quarter, or year. Choose a custom start and end date for a specific reporting period.

## Filter and group

Filters can target provider, sub-account, service, region, resource, charge category, or tag. Depending on the field, values can be included, excluded, matched by contained text, or matched by a starting or ending value.

Group results by one of provider, sub-account, service, region, resource, or charge category. Grouping changes how totals are split; it does not change the underlying cost records.

## Choose a presentation

Display the result as a line, bar, stacked bar, area, pie, or table view. Time-series views can use daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly intervals. Presentation settings can include or exclude credits, refunds, and tax, apply amortization, show a forecast, or compare with the previous period.

## Save the view

When the result is useful beyond the current session, save it as a named Cost Report. Cost export is not currently available from the report explorer.
